Pioneer AVIC U220 Add On Navigation Device Navigation

how do I?, A Kid's Review
Good Day:

I bought your product, and I think that is very good, but i have a problem, i don't know how to install a map for venezuela.
I will thank you if you help me to resolve the problem, because I can't use the avic U220 until i have the correct map for my country.

I apologize if my english is not good.
Good unit, The unit is good but a little pixilated coming from a AVIC head unit. That's because information is carried using an IP BUS. Just know that it is faster ( starts up right away) but it's not as clean/clear.
Navigation, Easy to setup and works great. Just one down side in the picture quality. It not like an oem navigation that for sure. It's good tho.
forgot the basics, I have had this unit for over three weeks. It has alot of bells and whistles like ECO graph and Gass Mileage but, forgot to add resturant and gas stations...... I can find the library but not McDonalds...WTH. back to the Iphone.
HARD TO NAVIGATE, I have had this installed in my vehicle for some time now and quite frankly it has been nearly useless. This is not a plug and play item. Not only do you have to do the install, but you have to jump through a bunch of hoops just to get the damn thing to use all the functions. Apparently you have to BUY a SD card and download stuff from the internet and....... who knows!!! I am not happy with this device at all. I don't think you have to go through all this trouble with a garmin or a tom tom??? I feel like I need a computer programmers degree to get this very expensive item to do what it is supposed to do! Thanks Pioneer for the ridiculous trouble.
Pioneer AVIC-U220 Add-On Navigation Device, Good in theory but in practice leaves alot to be desired. Installation is easy enough and the female voice is extremely easy to understand. "She" speaks slowly enough to be understandable. And the voice quality is the best I've heard: human like in every way. Routing is pretty accurate. The two areas I dislike vehemently are the AVIC feeds software and screen resolution. Pioneer leads you to believe screen resolution is tack sharp - not so. It is blurry and has a high degree of aliasing. The screen looks like a 1980's supertwist lcd. The AVIC feed software is Windows only - so Mac's are out of luck. However this where it really gets strange: I have yet to be able to download the AVIC feeds software to take advantage of the many cool features that Pioneer claims in their ads. Documentation is zero so it's pretty useless. And there is no mention about how to update the maps.
Stay away from this item on Amazon, I saw this item for $259.99 in early Feb at Amazon.com. A couple weeks later I bought it, but the price had gone up to $279.99. I purchased on Feb 15 with an estimated delivery date between March 1-30. My card was never charged. The item never shipped. Yesterday I saw the item online sold by Amazon for $399.99, and today I received an e-mail notifying me that Amazon could not complete the order and was cancelling it. What that e-mail really meant was that Amazon was refusing to honor the price at which they agreed to sell the item. Crutchfield sells Pioneer's AVIC-U220 Navigation Add-On for about the current price ($399) and I can get it next day with shipping included. If you try to get a deal on Amazon, you will wait for WEEKS if you ever even get it at all! This is classic bait and switch (we won't honor the advertised price, but we'll sell it to you for $150 more!).
Good navigation, but safety feature are a pain!, If i hadn't gotten a few amazon gift cards for Christmas, i probably wouldn't have bought this, due to the fact that you can get a navigation deck for $300-400 and they want $250 for the add on navi. I have it hooked up to the Avh-P3200dvd. Installation was fairly easy, plan on putting it somewhere very easily accessible (I'll explain in a bit)

When i first installed it and drove around for a bit, i realized that the Avic-U220 bypasses the parking brake bypass that I installed on the 3200dvd. So i can no longer view movies while driving. The easy solution to this, is to have the U220 unplugged (out of its cradle) before you start your car. After you start your car and the deck powers up, plug the U220 into its cradle and then the parking break bypass will still work, and you'll be able to view movies (thats why i installed it below the shifter in my car). I've done research and found that others have used a PAC TR7 module and had it setup to have a 5 second delay before powering up the U220.

The second thing that i dont like about the U220 is that it has an accelerometer/gyroscope that knows when you're going faster than 10mph and you cannot enter destinations or search for POI's until you go slower than 10mph. Hopefully someone will figure out how to bypass the accelerometer/gyroscopes, but i doubt it.

I like the idea of being able to add on navigation to my deck, but i wish i would have just waited and purchased one of pioneers higher-end navigation decks, instead of adding bluetooth and navigation on to a base model.
No Mapping Updates Available., Save your money. Buy a Garmin - it's much cheaper and upgradable. Pioneer does not support map updates so you're stuck with what you get.
