Kenwood Dnx 6160 Multimedia Navigation Bluetooth good but could be better

Garmin is a win, First off, I purchased a Jensen VM9414 and was going to buy another one when I ran across a good deal with this unit. I will be comparing to a Jensen product. There is definitely no comparing the Navigation part of this unit. I works great and has a bunch of things that I still haven't even played with. For example, you can change the traditional icon to a car. There are a few to choose from too. I will try and get a video review up when I get a chance. I thought the colors were a bit childish looking at first but they prove to be useful. For example, Pink was used for the direction to my destination. Well, turns out that pink stands out pretty damn good so that you don't miss your turn. It also shows you speed limits of the roads that you are on. When you go too fast, your speed will be indicated in red. There were a few side streets that it didn't show the speed limit, but this was impressive. As far as the bluetooth, it sounds great and the other person can hear me clearly. If you have an iPhone 4, you might have some difficulty connecting the unit everytime. I didn't have this problem with the Jensen unit. This can be fixed with an update that I hope Kenwood creates. If you are wondering, the safety features can be bypassed easily. Enough said about that. I have an overhead unit that it is hooked up to and it works great. If you want to listen to music in front and have children watch movies in the back, you can do this with the dual zone features. I haven't quite learned how to make my Infrared work for the headphones though. Overall, I am pleased with the unit. There are a lot of options that I haven't even learned to use which means that there is a lot of customizing that can be done. I did learn how to change the background pic. You wont be disappointed with this unit.
Awesome Unit DNX-6160 Love this Unit!!!! Amaaaaaaaazing!!!, I am not sure why people have problems with their units but I have to say it was their bad Luck that they bought a Faulty Unit. This is an Awesome Unit. The reason I bought this was because of its GPS, Bluetooth, and iPod/iPhone features. Since I have been using Garmin GPSes, I am really comfortable with the GPS on this Unit. The iPod features is amazing, I play videos and also mp3 from my iPod and it plays it perfectly. The CD and DVD Is great also. The Sound Quality is amazing :D The telephone features is amazing also, I have had couple phones connected to it. Especially my SE x10i and iPhone 4G (White), so I can use the Bluetooth (Hands free) features, and it shows your phone book and your battery life also, you can send and receive TXT messages with it also. I highly recommend this item to anyone. It is fast and operates amazingly well. I am really glad I bought it. The price was great Too! My iPhone 4G (White) works perfectly with this Unit, unlike what other people say. I highly recommend this unit. I have installed this unit in my IS300.
Dissapointed, I have purchased it and installed it professionally by local radio shop in my Hyundai Tucson, 5 months later sound function stopped working. Shop says that unit is bad and needs to be replaced. Garmin says warranty only 3 months.
I would not buy it again.
good but could be better, The good... has a volume knob, enough power/good sound, decent display, and has a lot of features.
The bad: incredibly POOR user interface. Very hard to use while driving.
Needs a lot of expensive options to use all features like HD radio, XM, traffic for nav

Takes 30 seconds to boot. During boot, no radio, no functions at all.

1. Navigation
Garmin navigation seems to know fewer POI's than standalone Nuvi's of same class.
Less on-screen display than Nuvi.. side streets, rivers, lakes, etc.
Doesn't tell you next cross street
Not on same update cycle as Garmin Nuvi's, seems a rev behind.

2. Tuner
Poor sensitivity, hard to tune weak stations with the touch interface
Ridiculously cluttered screen almost REQUIRES on-steering wheel controls (supported but optional)

3. DVD player
No 5.1 support, stereo only.
Plays MP3's on DVD-RW, but "random" is always the same sequence, not true random
Hard to find songs

4. Bluetooth
Links to only ONE phone at a time
ONLY 3 preset callable numbers! and NO user tags on them, just PRESET-1,2,3
Limited support for voice dial
Requires BT Windows laptop to update..
Buyer Beware!, I purchased this unit based on favorable reviews that I read on Amazon and other sites. However, after purchasing this unit and having it installed by an authorized Kenwood dealer (Best Buy), I began to have difficulties with the unit's iPod operation, touch screen, video display, etc. Upon further research online, I found other DNX6160 owners were experiencing similar problems too. Upon contacting Kenwood to exercise my product warranty rights, I was given the run around, and told that I would have to remove the product to send it in to be evaluated for warranty repair--NOT product replacement with a non-defective DNX6160.

Think TWICE before purchasing any Kenwood product. Any sense of security you may feel with from the product warranty is misleading. Kenwood policies and procedures are designed to discourage consumers from exercising their rights granted under the product warranty.
Myeh - Lack of Support and Mortal Nav Board, I have installed two of these DNX-6160's. I also have two of the previous 2009 models, the DNX-6140's. I have encouraged others to buy Kenwood Nav receivers based on their functionality and features along with a fairly good experience (I post to a handful of automotive forums).

Well, it would seem that what you have read here is true. Kenwood really doesn't expect to stand behind it's products or make their customers feel good about the brand.

One day out of the blue this 6160 had a message that it "Cannot unlock maps". An examination of the "info" screen on the map section of the nav area showed only a blank screen. No Text. No version number whatsoever. I updated the Kenwood head unit software followed by the latest Garmin nav software.
iPhone 4 problems ?????, Do you expect the Kenwood 6160 to work fully with your iPhone 4?

That's what I'd like to know. But good luck getting any clear information on that subject. The iPhone 4 has been out for 4-5 months and there doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement or response by Kenwood and other auto units that addresses the reputed incompatibility problems.
Nice new interface, but Garmin ruined an excellent unit,   name="R2XP9S9UV340RO.2115.Helpful.Reviews" style="font-size:1px;"> name="R2XP9S9UV340RO.2115.Inappropriate.

Pioneer AVH P3200BT Dash Multimedia Receiver Rear speakers not functioning with deck

good product, thanks for the product, very good very timely, came to tempo, everything went very well.
Great head unit, This radio can do so much more than you probabaly ever use in your car. Tons of features. Tons of customization options including graphic EQ, illumination colors and background images. It has 3 preamp outputs eliminating the need for speaker wire and giving you a much more reliable input. It was an average installation with a little work-around involving a relay to play DVDs (you know what I'm talking about).
Good, but not Great., Updated 11/10/11: The AM/FM portion of the stereo failed two weeks ago and as luck would have it, it's just outside the return for Amazon and out of warranty for Pioneer. The unit lasted 1 year and 10 days before failing. Now I'm looking at close to $200 to fix it. Whereas I originally recommend this unit, I would now recommend staying away from Pioneer products, since they don't seem to stand behind their products and were very unhelpful in trying to resolve my problem.

Purchased this as an upgrade to my exisitng car stereo.
Good Buy, 3 yrs back, bought a 1-DIN Sony receiver to replace a broken/original 2-DIN JBL receiver (6 speakers) on my Camry XLE V6. Was not please with the original JBL. Not happy with the Sony sound either - worse than JBL. Sony is flat and seems only front tweeter speakers did all the work. Picked Pioneer based on this site review. Also replace front and rear speakers with Polk. Left the tweeter untouched. Almost add a sub-woofer system, but changed my mind at last min - take up too much space. Took a few days for the speakers to break in. Once they do, both Pioneer and speakers brought my car to a much higher HiFi level, way better than the original "JBL".
Great product, disappointing support, Great product -- a few things I might change overall, but it provides great audio and video quality and I love the XM add-on.

Very peeved, though, with an element of installation and subsequent support. After installation, I have a 1/4 in gap between the head unit and the dashboard. Can't be an unusual occurance because they reference it in the installation manual and tell you to fill the gap with the "supplied" frame. No frame in my box, so I called to ask about it. Well, that $2 piece of plastic is only supplied with a separate installation kit ($60) referenced in a different section of the installation manual. Can't be purchased separately. Customer support person was less than helpful -- seemed to be trying to set me up as an idiot for not recognizing that the frame was part of a kit, then acting as though my request to purchase the $2 part separate from the $60 kit was preposterous. The customer may not always be right, but there's no justification to talk down to them if they are wrong. In the best organizations, customer support has the flexibility to see if reasonable requests can be met, even if they don't fall into the typical manner of doing business. I guess Pioneer is okay with being an average company.

The product itself is great, and I don't mind looking for another solution to a cosmetic defect. But the whole experience with a misleading installation manual and then lousy customer service has left such a bad taste in my mouth, I don't anticipate buying Pioneer ever again.
Pioneer!, So happy with this unit! Beats the crap out of my stock radio and the blue tooth for my phone is just icing on the cake. Install was breeze.
Very Versatile Head Unit, This head unit is quite versatile with its playback. The graphic EQ is pretty good, though i would have liked better control of the preamp outputs. Screen resolution is ok, nowhere near HiDef quality, but that is too be expected. The remote control is extremely basic, it could definitely use more controls for the myriad playback options. Full motion backgrounds are kinda cool, but it appears to only work on the right side of the screen. I need to play with it more to see if i can expand it to cover the full screen. Sound quality for this unit is pretty good, not the best i have heard but not the worst by a long shot.
Good Radio, Poor Interface, As a radio, it is wonderful. The sound quality is great, I can listen to songs on my iPhone 4 (the reason I bought it), and it fit very nicely into my '06 Sonata (with the Metra kit). I'm a hands-on kind of electronics user. I can tell when an interface is poorly executed if I need to look at the manual to figure stuff out. And, it seems unnatural almost how the radio stations are stored and how you access stored stations. It is tucked away while I feel it should be readily available as on a traditional stereo. Other elements seem needlessly vague to access. It could just be my area, but I am often unable to tag songs on the radio.
I was not looking for bluetooth phone calling abiity but it works great! I really like the stereo, but it does have those elements I mentioned that frustrate me.
AVH-P3200BT into a 2003 GMC Sierra, First, let me say that I really am enjoying the AVH-P3200BT. I installed it into my 2003 GMC Sierra and used the Axxess ASWC steering wheel controller to keep the functionality of my steering wheel controls. The instructions for the Pioneer unit were clear, although there is a communication disconnect between Pioneer and Axxess in that they don't use the same lingo.. making it less than obvious (to some, I imagine) how the ASWC connects to the AVH-P3200BT. The Pioneer has a socket for a "hardwired remote control" and the ASWC says to plug into a "Steering Wheel Control" socket. Well... the Pioneer doesn't have one. Once you figure out that the ASWC has to plug into the "hardwired remote control" jack, all is well.

Some of the complaints about the unit are legit. The buyer just has to decide for themselves whether they are important or not. You can only load and save one user-provided image as a background splash screen. Personally, that's not a big deal to me. No place in the documentation I saw did it explain that it won't read a 32-bit jpeg file, but trial and error showed that it will only take up to a 24-bit image. Again, not a biggie to me. Your mileage may vary.

I used the Metra wiring harness adapter to go into my Sierra. That worked well. The Pioneer also needs a 12v accessory line that is not native to the GMC radio wiring harness. I moved an unused lead in the Metra connector to the pin that the Pioneer wanted accessory power on and wired that into accessory. That took care of the problem without making any changes to my GMC harness. Also, you WILL need the antenna extension adapter - the GMC radio antenna plug and the Pioneer socket are not compatible.

The stereo is a tight fit in the dash (depth-wise), especially with the added connectors. If you can guide them back and to the left (behind the instrument cluster) everything will fit. To go into a GMC, you WILL need a mounting kit - both to provide the side mounting brackets and a double-DIN bezel to fill the 1/4" gap around the unit.
Rear speakers not functioning with deck, Worked at first, but after a month or so, the speakers in the rear of my car wouldn't produce any sound. Took my car to a professional audio shop, and they tested my speakers and found they worked fine. They came to the conclusion that something was wrong with the deck and suggested that I try to get an exchange. I got mine from the company sigma through Amazon. All I got was people with heavy Indian accents that wanted me to pay them through paypal for shipping for the product, or give them my credit card number. Very sketchy. My suggestion is to just buy expensive equipment like car audio decks locally. It is worth the extra hundred or two to not have to go through all this trouble.

BELOW AVERAGE CAR RADIO, THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST PLAYERS I HAVE BOUGHT YET... 2 MONTHS AFTER I HAD BOUGHT IT IT ALREADY STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS. BUTTONS ON THE RADIO SOMEHOW WENT BACKWARDS N DIDNT DO WHAT THEIR SUPPOSED TO DO ... LIL WHILE AFTER THAT THE SCREEN STARTED GOING CRAZY AUTOMATICALLY RAISING MY VOLUME TO THE MAX FOR NO REASON AS IF I WAS PRESSING THE VOLUME UP BUTTON CONSTANTLY ... IT ALSO UN CALIBRATED ITSELF ONE RANDOM DAY I TURNED IT ON ... ALL I GOTA SAY... IS THAT THIS RADIO IS WORTHLESS ...
I HAVE A QUESTION, I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS WILL FIT IN A CAR THAT HAD A NORMAL PIONNER RADIO TALKIN ABOUT THE DIMENTION FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.....
Gr8 product, Love this product. I am no videophile but everything looks great on it. I also connect my Ipod touch via the aux port and listen to my podcast this way. It doesn't work via the usb connection. That's the only disappointing thing. Would have been real nice if I could have manipulated my ipod files through the radio.

The manual is simple, but then again so is the device and more so my usage. I just want to play video, listen a radio station and my podcast while driving.
great stereo, Great stereo for the money. the stereo sounds great, the dvd player has great picture, and you can load music up from a flash drive. it also has touch screen presets which are really great. there are a few things I would like to mention you can't by a dash kit for this stereo so you will have to modify your dash your self. and also it has a parking break wire so that the dvd player doesn't work while the car is in motion, but that can easily be bypassed by wiring the pink parking break wire into your stereo ground wire. great stereo great price.
Worth it, Its a great product.. good quality and options.. but sadly it doesnt have a good equalizer.. only treble and Bass and its only 320W while my speakers are 1000W... so i lost some of my speakers performance.. but overall..
bad design, my husband ordered this, thinking it would be a decent (not perfect) alternative to our stereo in our car. the only good thing is it plays dvds and is easy to ground the wire to make it play while in drive. the screen is small so our kids whine that they cant see it. we still have not firgured out how to get the clock off of military time, nor does the clock show if it is in aux. mode or any other mode other then am/fm or off. the owners manual is not helpful, having VERY little information. the screen looks like a screen from a 1980's computer with the boxy green letters. seems like it should be an up to date system with the dvd player and touchscreen but has very bad design and is not user friendly. volume is inconsistent when used with an mp-3 player and screen is blank when in this mode. i guess you can store pics on this. we have not tried. hope to return it anyways. dont be fooled that it will have good or even decent graphics. this came sooner than we expected so that was a plus. dvd player works good if you have a small car where it can be viewed from the back. all in all...very cheap because it is very cheaply made! dont like it at all.
      already replaced,
      need feedback,
Don't waste your time or Money., I bought this product for my 2002 Ford Explorer and was told it would fit just fine and it didn't, had fitting problems straight away. It skips more than any other cd player I've ever had, the DVD functions are good and crystal clear, the on screen controls look more like something that should be on the predecessor to the Atari game system.
      Replacing this this asap.
HELP, Im looking for a radio and this looks like a decent one, and for some extra bucks you get the 6.2 monitor that other radios dont have. I want to know from those who bought it how good is it for watching videos, how is the menu, and if the quality is good. Thankyou...

shaking my head, Its true u really get what u pay for...i wsted time and money ordering this unit. The Graphics are absolutely horrible. The Eq sucks. there is no hi or low pass filter on the unit.and its complicated to install...
Power acoustic 8.3 flip up single din reciever, I purchased this power acoustic 8.3 inch flip up screen and have had nothing but problem after problem. It is really piece of junk. It constantly looses memory even after wiring the yellow battery wire directly to the battery. I am not at all satisgied with the radio and most likely not purchase anything else throug amazon.com.
      malo,
Great buy for the price!, The unit might be the top name brand out there, but is the biggest touch screen with at least equal or more options than the top brands. Also no other head unit with this amount of options and screen size would come anywhere near the price of this head unit. I have read previous reviews on this unit. And the ones that degrade it. Look it's not the best no doubt. But I used every function and had been a previous owner of a system I personally paid over $1k from pioneer. I choose this cause it works, does much more and gives you plenty of options. Buy it is my recommendation.
Really extraordinary., This is very complete player is compatibre with almost all auxiliary devices can be installed, memory cards, plus for mp3, ipo, among others, the system also is unique to release the screen is very elegant, when it saved appears current player. My advice is that before you buy, you must be sure that your car is doing well, as in some car models, hits the handout display when leaving the screen.
if you like cheap junk in your car, this is perfect, I believe they won't let me put 0 stars for my review. The clips in the back of mine were so pathetic, I had to super glue the entire clips just to keep them on. Before then, I had the worst grounding issues, speaker cutout, and even a power failure while it was locked out in the viewing position. if I could punch the guy in the face who designed this thing, that would be the most satisfying thing this company could do for me.
      falty products,
4volts pre-amp, i haven't installed this unit as yet but couldn't help noticing in the users manual and on the box,it says that there are three 2V preamp outputs, where as the add online says three 4V preamp outputs (front, rear, subwoofer). This was one of the reasons for me making this purchase.I do hope there aren't any more disappointments.

Pioneer AVH P3300BT 5 8 Inch Bluetooth Receiver Great System!

All hat no cattle, I ended up looking at this unit in a store because the other unit was unavailable for testing. Like others here, I have no interest in buying an expensive audio playback device (aka iPod / iPhone) in order to get an expensive Pioneer audio playback device to play back music. I'm happy to buy an external audio STORAGE device like a flash drive or SD card, but if I'm paying more than $80 for a head unit then it better be a stand-alone device because being a lazy iPod/iPhone pass-through device is unacceptable. Unfortunately, my test of the device showed that it was basically designed to be a lazy pass-through device when it comes to music.

In my tests I brought in two compact flash drives: one was an obsolete/throwaway 4GB unit and the other was 32GB unit (i.e. something people would actually use here in the 21st century).
wish I had looked at pic of backside closer - no rear ipod input, First off, my big gripe here - there is no rear input for ipod/iphone. that means you have to use Pioneer's double cable (usb plus a 3.5mm jack) for ipod/iphone dangling from the front. Serious design oversite.

Otherwise - this unit offers a good deal of bang for buck at 350 (BTW - the Amazon price is not good, can be had for 350 many places, including local stereo shops). The Bluetooth works well for phone, but as others have stated, does NOT stream BT audio. This unit is really designed for iphone users, which begs why they put the cable interface on the front?

Capable of doing a lot - but limited by design. the touchscreen is ailitte buggy, slow then fast and always jumpy. needs to scroll more slowly.
Pioneer AVH-P3300BT, Pros: Nice looking unit, good sound quality, somewhat easy to use.

Cons: As usual the neat features are for iPhone users. The owner's manual is a joke -- that 2pt font is ridiculous. It also looks like it was printed in draft mode. If this unit has built in Bluetooth, then I must be a moron. I haven't been able to access the BT menu since I bought it. It's simple greyed out, so I can't access it. Which leads me to believe that BT isn't built in, but actually requires a cable which wasn't in the box. I only bought this unit BECAUSE is was supposed to have BUILT in BT.
OK but not Great, I put this in my wifes Toyota Sienna about 6 months ago.

Pros: The sound is good but a little underpowered.
The Ipod integration is pretty good, althought we sometimes just override it and use the IPod directly.

Cons: The radio functions are lousy. There are no individual buttons on the screen so you have to scroll through them all,one at a time. With all the screen size available why not have 6 preset buttons and even better have the buttons show the station frequency.
In general I find myself having difficulty hitting the small buttons on the screen for the different functions. When not listening to an IPod the vast majority of the screen is taken up with cool but usless graphics which would of been put to better use enlarging different function buttons. Usually I find myself having to wait until I am stopped at a light to do anything more than change the volume.

We kept the unit and it was an improvement over the stock radio, but if it was in my truck I would of returned it.
Great System!, I just had this system installed yesterday, and love it!
The improvement in sound is very noticeable, even with AM stations.
The screen is clear and crisp, and the unit is user-friendly.
I recently replaced the four stock speakers in my 2004 Ford Explorer with Pioneer TS-D6802R speakers, which was a great improvement, but the clarity and richness of sound was noticably improved with the addition of this unit (Pioneer AVH-P3300BT 5.
Wow... My friends are jealous..., I installed the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT in my 2005 Hyundai Sonata. I love all of the features and the expandability for the future. Don't plan on putting in a back-up camera but, hey... It's nice to have the option. Installation was not too bad. I did my homework for the Sonata install ahead of time by researching online other users trials and tribulations. The unit looks like it was made for my car. It fit perfectly.

I connected a bypass relay for the ability to have video play while out of parking gear. Also, in the sonata their is a stock amp that needs power to get sound from the speakers... I haven't installed a stereo in a car since the 80's and was able to get this installed within two hours.

The unit kicks ass... Sound is awesome, just need to figure out all that I need to adjust to get it to my liking. Bluetooth works great, tested it with a call to a friend and he said it sounds great.
A+, Great head unit. Touch screen controls are easy to navigate through. iPod controls work well also. I like the "black screen" mode for night driving, only the manual buttons are backlit. I have my iPod and an SD card connected and it's very easy to switch from one source to another to find a song you're looking for. Decent choice of backlight/wallpaper selection also.
No Issues, My wife purchased this receiver for me as a Christmas present. So far I have had no problems with it. I use the bluetooth feature often so I can talk hands free. I also like plugging my ipod into the usb slot for my music. It does not bother me that when using the cable that originaly came with your ipod, you have to control your ipod from the actual receiver and not the ipod itself. Movies look good as well as pictures. I have been happy with it.
It works, you just need an additional $$, Once it was finally set up, it's great and looks good in my truck. The problem I have with this is that you need to buy so many other things in order for it to be fully used. So if you purchase this, know that you will need a "special harness" which cost me $100, I already have an XM radio account but that doesnt matter, I also need to purchase another tuner which costs around or more than $100. So basically I need to save a little more money before I fully use this system. I got this system on sale for $324 but total cost I see could be around $500 which is around the price at the actual Pioneer site, so Amazon did save me some money.
Not the greatest, but definitely one of the better DD Touchscreens!, For the money, the AVH-P3300BT gives you a lot. Bluetooth for your phone, pretty large touchscreen, decent UI to access your music.

The couple of quirks that I have with this unit though are:

          1) The remote is not very useful. When I say that, I mean that it does not give you access to everything you may need to. A remote allows you to memorize through touch the functions you want to access. To access your music (safely) you have to be at a stop then look for the magnifying glass, and cycle through your playlists, etc. There should be an option for that on your remote.

          2) You cannot play music through bluetooth. My stock head unit could do this! Why can't my $300 unit!? It sees my iPod but it won't play! So you must use the clunky, front placed USB port. WHY!? This is ugly and takes away from the seamless clean look. My old Clarion had this on the backside of the unit and I ran the wire under the center console and drilled a hole in my little center console. CLEAN! Now in my new car, it looks cheap!

In the end though, for the price. Can't go wrong...
